Memorial Day Spirit Refuses To Melt In Hot Weather
SYRACUSE — In the face of heated temperatures, residents of Syracuse lined the streets early to settle into the best spot where they could watch the 2018 Syracuse Memorial Day Parade. Everyone excitedly chatted with their friends, family and neighbors until the parade came down the street and around the corner.
Handfuls of candy were thrown from police vehicles, prompting children and adults to fall into the streets to gather as much as they could. Several nonprofit organizations walk through or drove through the parade with floats.
Following parade festivities, many headed to Syracuse Cemetery for the Memorial Day ceremony led by the Syracuse American Legion, Post 223. Post Commander Mark Davis began the services that would honor deceased local heroes who died in combat throughout the history of the United States.
