North Webster Community Public Library Announces Summer Events
NORTH WEBSTER — As the summer reading program gets underway at North Webster Community Public Library, professional magician Jeff Wawrzaszek will perform his Read Like a Rock Star magic show 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, with a masterful medley of magic tricks and laugh-a-minute comedy. The show is open to all children and their families.
Family story time begins its summer session on Tuesday, June 12, with a choice of two time periods at 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. and will be held every Tuesday through July 17. Although geared to children ages three to six, older siblings can join in, too. Registration is requested, but visitors are always welcome.
Pre-Reader Paws Classes also begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday where preschoolers will have fun learning sight words with Echo, a registered therapy dog, as they move through four stations of fun activities. Pre-Reader Paws Classes will be held every Tuesday through July 24. Pre-registration is required.
Older kids can also have fun with Echo at paws-to-read on Friday, June 15. Kids can sign up for a private 15-minute session to practice oral reading with this lovable canine. Appointments are available 10:30 a.m. through 12:15 p.m. and must be scheduled in advance at the youth services desk.
Teens won’t be left out of the fun. Students going into grades six through 12 are invited to get together for some fun and friendly competition playing board games. Snacks included.
Youth, from infants through higher schoolers, are encouraged to sign up for the summer reading program and earn prizes for reading. Although they don’t have to be signed up to attend the many events and activities planned this summer, those who are can earn extra credit toward prizes.
The Adult Services Department offers summer programs as well including two books clubs, writer’s corner, revolving recipe round-up, coffee and canvas, card-making workshops, field trips and other special events. Stop by the library and pick up a June calendar of events or June newsletter. Activities are listed on the library’s website at www.nweb.lib.in.us and on Facebook as well. Patrons can also sign up to receive notifications of special events via e-mail or cell phone text messages. Details are available at the circulation desk.
