New Exhibit At Lakeland Art Association Gallery
By Darla McCammon
Lakeland Art Association is an organization that greatly benefits northern Indiana. On a quest to produce a fine art museum and gallery for the citizens of the area, they continue to provide many services and helpful cultural opportunities to help enrich the community.
One of the services they provide in addition to workshops, scholarships, and educational and cultural events is to offer regular exhibits of excellent art for your personal enjoyment. The gallery is always free to visit and has a surprising wealth of a variety of art media, including opportunities for you to purchase original items at a reasonable cost. A small commission goes to help keep the doors open and you are encouraged to support Lakeland with your membership. You do not need to be a formal, practicing artist to be a member. The association welcomes anyone with an interest in, or a love, for the world of art.
Great programs are also offered on a regular basis where you can meet artists, learn more about a variety of artists, and increase your cultural knowledge. The excellent gallery is located at 302 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. The gallery is open from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The gallery is managed largely by volunteers and if you would like to provide a good deed, just check in, become a member, and offer to be one of the amazing docents who generously donate their time to keep the gallery open.
The next two months you will want to schedule a visit to enjoy the gallery. For June, you can enjoy a unique “Small Wonders” exhibit. As you enter the gallery, you will find yourself facing a plethora of very small pieces of art, with the only criteria being that the size must be small. An amazing array of small items that would be ideal in almost every home will greet your eyes. Now is your chance to find something that is truly original to treasure and enjoy—and at a reasonable cost, sure to increase in value over the years.
Another amazing artist will be coming to LAA in July. We will soon provide you with more information about Timothy Tyree, who is well-known around the country. Hailing from Ohio, his work will be on exhibit at Lakeland Art Association Gallery for the entire month of July, and you will want to go visit it.
For those with youngsters and nothing to do this summer, think about planning a day visit to Lakeland Art Gallery, then go to the Warsaw City Hall Art Gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, where Don Sheline will entertain you and talk with you about his work, and enter into a drawing for a free painting.
Then just around the corner from the courthouse, you can visit the gallery of our own nationally famous artist, Marc Eckel, also known as SPLAT. He has traveled with famous singing groups around the world and if he is in, he will entertain you with stories about his life and work. Make it a full day and stop in one of the many nice places for lunch in the downtown Warsaw area. The only thing it will cost you for this full day of fun for you and your kids will be the price of your lunch. Enjoy!
