Leesburg Man Sentenced For Burglary
KOSCIUSKO — A Leesburg man was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Three Court Tuesday, June 19, after breaking into a house.
Carmen Melillo Jr., 322 East CR 575N, Leesburg, was charged with burglary, a level 4 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary in progress. A neighbor advised he noticed the door leading into the residence’s attached garage was broken and that there was an unknown male subject in the garage.
Officers were able to locate the subject nearby and identified him as Melillo. The owner of the residence stated that tools and other items in his garage had been moved around.
Melillo admitted that he entered the residence because he was cold and hungry. He told officers that he was planning on eating food in the residence, but fled after being noticed by the owner’s neighbor.
“I would like to complete my time here and for another case, as I want to quickly better myself,” said Melillo during his sentencing.
Judge Joe Sutton sentenced Melillo to four years at the Indiana Department of Corrections. The sentence will be served consecutive to another case. Two years of that sentence will be served on formal probation.
