Groninger, Schroeder And Payne Invited To IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase
INDIANAPOLIS — A trio of Ink Free News-area players were named to the 16th annual IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase as the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Indiana High School Athletic Association rolled out their lists Monday.
Warsaw senior Nolan Groninger was one of 118 boys invited to the showcase, while Wawasee senior Casey Schroeder and NorthWood junior Madison Payne were among the 110 female players invited to participate in the girls’ event. A number of other athletes and coaches from the surrounding area were also invited to attend. Winamac’s Calvin Larkin, Plymouth’s Clay Hilliard and Penn’s Noah Applegate — all seniors — were invited to show their skills in the boys’ event, while Goshen sophomore Brynn Shoup-Hill, Northridge junior Molly Brown, South Bend St. Joseph junior Keegan Sullivan, Penn sophomore Jordyn Smith, South Central (Union Mills) junior Amber Wolf, Knox senior Lindsey Simpson and North Judson-San Pierre teammates Madeline Schumacher and Lilliann Frasure — a senior and sophomore, respectively — were all named to the girls’ list.
Also invited to participate as coaches were Northridge’s Doug Springer on the girls’ side and South Bend Washington’s Ryan Varga and Culver Military’s Mark Galloway on the boys’ side.
The boys showcase will be held Monday, July 9. Activity will begin at 2 p.m. and will last until about 7:45 p.m. The girls showcase will take place the following Monday, July 16. Again, action will begin at 2 p.m. and last until about 7:45 p.m. Both will take place at Ben Davis High School. The IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 200 of the top basketball prospects (about 100 boys and 100 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.
The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day. IBCA-member coaches will be admitted at no charge by showing their IBCA membership card.
