UPDATE: One Injured In Crash
LEESBURG — One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident today at 10:21 a.m. Monday, July 2. The accident was at Armstrong Road and CR 200E, east of Leesburg.
Melissa L. Brody, 32, Whitefield Road, Northbrook, Ill., complained of pain to the hip/upper leg area. She was taken to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, by private vehicle.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Brody was southbound on CR 200E in a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. She stopped her vehicle at the intersection of Armstrong Road, but failed to see a westbound 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by Randal L. Litwiller, 63, Longwood Court, Goshen, before pulling out into the intersection.
Litwiller’s truck struck the driver’s side door of Brody’s vehicle. Both vehicles ended up in the cornfield on the southwest corner of the intersection. The collision also caused the fifth-wheel flatbed trailer being pulled by the Dodge to come unhitched and hit the back of the truck.
Damage was estimated up to $50,000, including damage to the corn in a field owned by Wanita Boggs, East Armstrong Road, Leesburg.
Litwiller and his passenger were not injured.
Lutheran EMS and Leesburg Fire Department responded. The accident is being investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
