BREAKING — Two Injured In July 4 Collision
PALESTINE — A man and woman were injured Wednesday, July 4 in a two-vehicle collision just before noon as temperatures continued to flirt near the 90s.
Emergency personnel from Mentone and Burket, as well as police from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, were called by county dispatch at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday for a t-bone-style collision at the intersection of SR 25 and CR 400W, just west of the Devil’s Backbone.
The accident involved a hunter green Chevrolet Uplander minivan and a maroon Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle.
Two males occupied the Uplander and a man and woman were occupying the Ford SUV.
Dispatchers told first responders that at least one male appeared shaken up at the scene, although it was unclear which vehicle that male had been traveling in.
One of the occupants of the minivan said they had been traveling southbound on CR 400W and stopped at the intersection with SR 25.
“There was a line of traffic that way (east) as far away as that ambulance is now,” he said. “We watched that traffic and didn’t pay as close of attention the other way and started on across and we heard them slam on their brakes.”
The Ford Explorer had been traveling eastbound on SR 25 and began to slow dramatically before striking the minivan in the passenger’s side door, spinning the green vehicle around until it came to rest adjacent a steel I-beam corner post, facing northwest.
The man and the woman from the SUV both complained of pain to numerous areas and were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
