Smart, Gorball Help North To All-Star Win
INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of Northern Lakes Conference stars helped their All-Star team to a win Saturday in the annual IFCA North-South All-Star game at North Central High School.
NorthWood’s DeAndre Smart caught a 20-yard touchdown pass and Concord’s Josh Gorball hit a game-winning 38-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to give the North a 27-24 win.
Smart caught five balls for 47 yards and the second quarter touchdown, the scoring play thrown by Three Rivers Conference star Carson Blair of Southwood.
Gorball made the winning kick with 5:58 left in the contest and also added a pair of made extra points.
The Northern Lakes Conference was represented well in the game, a North roster that featured Grant Magnuson on Concord, Steven Worlds of Goshen and Nate LaFree of Plymouth all on the offensive line. Northridge’s Micah Yoder was a defensive lineman for the North.
Area players also on the North roster included Brian Loudermilk of Culver Academy, Kenny Cook of East Noble, Atanasio Sete of Mishawaka Marian and the Penn duo of James Morris and Max Chafee.
