South Bend Man Arrested For Local Theft
KOSCIUSKO — A South Bend man was arrested locally for stealing multiple items including a television.
Juwan Marquise Hamilton, 26, 1113 Enchanted Forest, South Bend, is being charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
On Dec. 7, 2017, an officer with the Warsaw Police department was dispatched to the Warsaw Walmart for a theft. A Walmart customer service manager had notified loss prevention that a television had been stolen. The greeter had asked the suspect for a receipt as he was leaving the store but the suspect would not stop. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a white shirt and white shoes. The suspect drove a burgundy Chrysler Sebring convertible.
Loss prevention reviewed the surveillance video and observed the suspect load a cart with clothing, an ottoman and a television. The suspect was seen passing all points of sale without attempting to make a purchase. The suspect then loaded the items into the described car and drove away.
The officer also reviewed the surveillance tape and was unable to identify the suspect. Information was then received from the Walmart in Elkhart that the suspect could possibly be Hamilton. Hamilton was known for stealing phones from the Elkhart Walmart.
The officer was able to find Hamilton on Facebook and compared his photos with the surveillance video and previous jail booking photos. The officer determined that the suspect was Hamilton.
Hamilton is also a suspect in a string of electronic thefts from Meijer as well as being known for stealing from the Elkhart Walmart. He has three previous theft convictions.
Hamilton was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on July 10, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
