New Vascular Screening Test Available At Parkview Warsaw
WARSAW — Parkview Warsaw is partnering with the Parkview Heart Institute to bring a new service to Kosciusko County residents. The hospital now offers a Total Vascular Screening for early detection of poor circulation. Poor circulation (blood flow), particularly in the neck or legs, can develop over time as blood vessels slowly become blocked. Because decreased circulation in any part of the body increases a person’s risk for having a heart attack or stroke, early detection with proper follow-up is important as it can slow or stop the progression of conditions leading to these traumatic health events.
Much like the HeartSmart CT Scan can detect calcium build-up in the arteries around the heart, the Total Vascular Screening is a noninvasive test that produces images of a person’s blood vessels in order to determine where blockages might be restricting blood flow. This screening requires no prep or undressing and costs $79. During the test, a specially trained ultrasound tech will apply a cool gel to an ultrasound wand and guide the wand painlessly over a patient’s neck and abdomen. In addition, blood pressure cuffs are placed on the person’s arms and ankles to detect any unusual changes in pressure, which could identify blockages forming in the legs. The screening can be completed in 30 minutes.
“We’re pleased to be able to make the vascular screening available and add another early detection tool as an option for Kosciusko County residents,” said Scott Gabriel, president, Parkview Whitley Hospital. “This partnership with Parkview Heart Institute is yet another example of the world-class teamwork that brings more resources to our community for exceptional care, conveniently close to home.”
No doctor’s referral is required since the Total Vascular Screening is an early-detection screening rather than a diagnostic test. Each patient receives printed results of the screening during the appointment, and a copy is sent to the patient’s primary care physician.
As a screening, this service is not covered by insurance. The $79 out-of-pocket fee is collected at the time of service. Screenings take place in the Physicians’ Specialty Clinic located on the facility’s third floor. Parkview Warsaw is located at 1355 Mariners Drive, Warsaw.
