Valley, NorthWood Teams Prepping For T&C State
AKRON – The semi-state championships concluded Monday night, signifying the final step for teams qualifying for the Town & Country youth league baseball championships.
Teams from across northern Indiana have competed in the month-long tournament, which has brackets for 8U, 10U and 12U baseball teams. Softball finished their tournament last weekend. Among the lot of baseball teams were clubs from Tippecanoe Valley and NorthWood area leagues, which were in action Monday night playing for semi-state titles and top seeds for the coming state championships that start Thursday.
In the 8U draw, Tippecanoe Valley faced off against North Judson at Plymouth. Judson was able to emerge victorious by a 14-8 score, putting them as the top seed from the north for the state finals, which begin Thursday at Akron. Valley takes the northern No. 2 seed, where it will face Alexandria in the 7:45 p.m. game Thursday night to begin the double-elimination bracket. Manchester and Peru were the other northern half teams to make the state finals as the third and fourth-place teams from the Plymouth semi-state. Rossville is the No. 1 seed from the south, which will take on Peru Friday. Akron Little League will be the host site for all the 8U state finals games, it’s championship game set for 6 p.m. Monday night.
In the 10U draw at Akron, Rochester defeated NorthWood, 13-2, giving them the No. 1 seed from the north. NorthWood finishes as runner-up from the Akron semi-state, placing them against Alexandria in the 7 p.m. game Thursday night. North Miami and Plymouth were the three and four seeds from the north. Rossville is also the No. 1 seed from the south, getting Plymouth in the Friday night game. The Oak Hill 10U state finals will conclude with a 5:30 p.m. championship Monday night.
The 12U northern tournament had Fairfield’s blue lineup defeat Plymouth, 8-3, at Rochester Monday to win the championship. The future Falcons take the top seed, and also have it’s gold roster alive as the four-seed. North Judson is the No. 3 seed in the bracket for this weekend at Monticello. Fairfield Blue will take on Flora at 6 p.m. Friday, Fairfield Gold will play southern top seed Madison-Grant at 6 p.m. Friday. Monticello’s championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday night.
