Fairfield 12U Highlights Town & Country Champions
One area team stood tall Monday night after the championship rounds of the Town & Country baseball tournaments came to a conclusion.
The Fairfield Blue 12U team claimed the championship at Monticello, winning 3-0 over Madison-Grant. The Falcons got a combined no-hitter from Owen Garrison and Mike Slabaugh to shut the door on its title. Fairfield’s Blue team won all four of its games in the state tournament at Monticello, beating Madison-Grant twice to secure the title. Madison-Grant made the championship after beating Plymouth in the loser’s bracket to make the title game.
The 8U tournament at Akron saw Russiaville defeat Northwestern 4-2 in the championship game. The two Howard County teams both had a common tie in getting to the final, as both defeated Tippecanoe Valley in its final step to the finals. Russiaville rallied to beat Valley, 6-5, despite Preston Prater’s heroics. Prater rapped a two-out, two-run single to give Valley the lead at 5-4 in the fifth, only for Russiaville to get both runs back in the bottom of the inning. Valley was unable to score in the sixth, sending them to the loser’s bracket. There, Northwestern jumped out to a 3-0 lead and wouldn’t lose it in a 5-1 final over the Vikings. Tippy were retired in order in four of the six innings and managed just six hits in the closing loss. Ty Kiser had the RBI for Valley, which closed its summer tour 26-7, but were champions of the Pierceton, Mentone, Akron and Rochester tournaments this year.
At Oak Hill in the 10U tourney, Rossville won the championship with an 8-5 victory over the host Oak Hill team.
The inaugural 14U tournament saw Harrison knock off Rossville for the championship.
