WARSAW 3, HUNTINGTON NORTH 2
Warsaw’s boys tennis team collected its first win under new head coach Stacy Lind Wednesday, a 3-2 decision over Huntington North.
Nolan Knight and Spencer Britton partnered up for a three-set win over Noah Zahn and Clark Kitchen at 1 doubles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-0, to complete the team win. Jarrett Orr and Michael Ray defeated Spencer Atkinson and Isaac Eckert, 6-3, 7-5, at 2 doubles, and Caleb Williams trumped Thomas Schweller 6-4, 6-2 at 1 singles.
The Tigers’ two losses came at 2 singles, where Reuben Williams lost 6-2, 6-0 to Adam Zahn, and at 3 singles, where Hayden Anderson fell 6-2, 6-1 to Carson Kitchen as play was moved inside to the Warsaw Racquet Club due to rain.
Warsaw tennis returns to action Thursday at Penn.
WAWASEE 3, LAKELAND 2
Wawasee earned its first win of the season via 3-2 win over Lakeland Wednesday.
Clayton Firestone gave Wawasee its only singles win, 7-5, 6-2 over Corey Christie, while Jacob Krugman and Zach Leedy combined for a 6-0, 6-0 win over Blake Sturdivant and Colton Fleeman at 1 doubles, and Lakeland forfeited at the 2 doubles position.
Graham Perek lost 6-1, 7-5 to Hunter Frost at 1 singles, and Colin Rhoades fell 6-2, 6-0 to Reece Romer at 2 singles.
The Warriors moved to 1-1 with the win. They play Thursday at Northern Lakes Conference opponent Plymouth.
KNOX 4, TRITON 1
Triton dropped its first Hoosier North Athletic Conference meeting with Knox Wednesday, falling at all but the 1 doubles position, where Carter Kuntz and Chase Butler put away Ricky Clark and Devan Himes, 6-0, 6-2.
John Gardner was shut out in straight sets at 1 singles by Eian Coad, 6-0, 6-0, and Connor Large also fell 6-0, 6-0 to Zac Eby at 3 singles. Jared Bules fell 6-0, 6-3 to Jake Krueger at 2 singles, and Tyler Heckaman and Trevor Miller stretched Ethan Sanders and Brock Taulee to a second-set tiebreak but fell 6-2, 7-6(4).
Triton’s JV also lost, 2-1.
The Trojans move to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the HNAC. The Trojans travel to Rochester Thursday. They’ll get another crack at Knox at home on Aug. 22.
