Durkes Joins Valley’s District 5 School Board Race
AKRON — Another candidate has entered the District 5 race for Tippecanoe Valley Board of School Trustees to challenge incumbent Todd Hoffman.
Craig Durkes of Akron, filed his candidacy with the Kosciusko County Clerk’s Office prior to the Aug. 24 deadline.
“The reason I am running for Tippecanoe Valley school board is to make a difference for the students, faculty and parents of the Tippecanoe Valley school system,” said Durkes. “With my professional background, as well as my involvement within the school system over the past 12-plus years, I know I can add value and meaning to the school board. I am invested in TVSC with having three children still in school. TVSC offers wonderful opportunities to students that will lead them to the next level in their lives, whether that is pursuing a college degree or joining the work force right out of high school.”
Durkes is married to Shari Durkes and the couple have four children. The candidate said he has lived in the school district for 20 years.
Durkes is the chief operating officer of Insurance 1 Services, Inc. in Akron and has worked in the insurance industry since 2006. He is currently on the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce board and is a past participant of the Fulton County Chamber Leadership Academy, a past member of the Akron elementary parent support group, former committee member on panel selected to help with the selection of the new high school principal at Tippecanoe Valley and is a past president of the Viking booster club. He is currently on the booster board as an at-large member and is involved in youth athletics.
