Warsaw’s boys tennis team claimed a 5-0 Northern Lakes Conference win on the road at Elkhart Memorial Thursday.
The Tigers surrendered just one game on each of the three singles courts, Caleb Williams beating Jesus Hernandez 6-0, 6-1 at 1 singles, and Reuben Williams and Hayden Anderson putting away Zach Olena and Garrett Culp, 6-0, 6-0 at 2 and 3 singles, respectively.
Spencer Britton and Nolan Knight rebounded from a first-set loss at 1 doubles for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Brandon Bailey and Mike Troyer, and Brian Elliott and Jarrett Orr downed Chris Troyer and Luke Leazenby 6-4, 6-3.
Warsaw resumes NLC play at home versus Goshen next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
CONCORD 5, NORTHWOOD 0
NorthWood lost its Northern Lakes Conference-opener with Concord Thursday.
The closest match of the evening came at 2 singles, where Ben Vincent fell 6-3, 7-5 to Freddy Buckingham. Trajan Schwartz and Jack Wysong were close in their first set with Travis Hermon and Nate Slabach but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-1.
Wes Troyer lost in two 6-2 sets to Alex Serwatka at 1 singles, Landon Holland fell 6-0, 6-3 to Cal Whitaker at 3 singles, and Grant Topping and Dawson Bley succumbed, 6-2, 6-0 to Grant Lucchese and Drew McDougle, 6-2, 6-0 at 2 doubles.
NorthWood’s JV lost its match with Concord, 8-1.
The Panthers varsity slipped to 2-1 overall with an 0-1 NLC start. They play a rare Friday night match at Culver Military Academy tonight at 5 p.m.
LOGANSPORT 5, TRITON 0
Triton slipped to 2-4 with a 5-0 loss to Logansport Thursday, the first meeting between the two programs.
The Trojans were competitive on most courts, with Carter Kuntz and Chase Butler coming up a little short 6-4, 7-6(6) to C.J. Hallam and Kian Harris at 1 doubles, John Gardner forcing a first-set tiebreaker with David Meadows before losing 7-6(8), 6-0 at 1 singles, and Connor Large winning seven games in a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Derek Bergestedt at 3 singles at the make-up meet, rescheduled from Monday night.
Tyler Heckaman and Grant Eib were beaten in straight 6-2 sets by Brian Cole and Noah Lange at 2 doubles, and Jared Bules lost 6-0, 6-3 to Michael Meadows at 2 singles.
Triton’s JV also lost, 5-0.
Triton plays a Hoosier North Athletic Conference meet at LaVille next Tuesday.
