Girls Soccer Results: Sept. 4
WARSAW 2, ELKHART MEMORIAL 0
Warsaw remained unbeaten in the Northern Lakes Conference with a quality road win at Memorial.
The Lady Tigers used a goal and assist from Abby Steffensmeier while Audrey Grimm added the second goal. Delaney Taylor added another assist to her all-time résumé. Kaylee Patton earned her sixth shutout of the season, and fourth in the NLC.
Warsaw also won the JV contest by a 4-0 result. Elizabeth Stone notched two goals while Brielle Fehlman and Carlie Hastings both found the net as well.
Warsaw (7-2, 4-0 NLC) will take on Concord in a big conference contest Thursday in Dunlap.
CONCORD 1, NORTHWOOD 0
A Melany Flores goal in the 23rd minute was the only score of the match between NLC rivals.
Flores scored the goal unassisted to move Concord to 3-0 in NLC play and right in the middle of the championship race.
NorthWood again was the victim of not being able to find an equalizer, losing its third NLC match by a 1-0 score.
Kira Robinson made six saves in the loss while Kendal Swartout stopped all five NorthWood shots to keep her club undefeated in the NLC.
NorthWood won the JV match 3-0.
NorthWood (4-3, 0-3 NLC) will face John Glenn Thursday.
FORT WAYNE FUSION 4, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2
LCA hit the road Wednesday and found the hosts to have the hot feet.
Fort Wayne used three second-half goals to pull away from the Cougars to hand LCA its first loss of the season.
Tori Calizo scored both goals for LCA, one in each half, to give her 14 goals for the season. Anna Reimink missed a penalty midway through the first half, which became a crucial part of the Fusion rally.
LCA would fire 12 shots on goal in the match, and on the other end, Maddie Paris made four saves in the loss.
“I was proud of the way the girls hung in there,” said LCA head coach Nat Raber. “We lost Carly O’Hara in the first 15 minutes of the game to a bad ankle sprain and were not the same. The girls kept going strong and played them tough coming close multiple times to tying the game towards the end. We played a solid team and with a couple bounces in our favor could have pulled it out.”
LCA settles at 5-1-1 on the season with its next contest at home Friday against South Bend Trinity, a 5:30 p.m. start.
