Volleyball Results: Sept. 15
WAWASEE 2-2 IN WAWASEE INVITE
A first-round loss was all that kept Wawasee out of the championship of its home tournament, but just the same, Wawasee would settle at 2-2 Saturday in its action in the tourney played at Wawasee Middle School.
Garrett beat Wawasee 25-21, 25-20 in the first pairing of the day. While the Lady Warriors rallied to beat Whitko 25-21, 25-12, and Columbia City 25-21, 18-25, 16-14, Wawasee would settle for the third-place matchup against Wabash.
In the final game of their day, Wabash topped Wawasee 25-20, 25-22.
Garrett would take on Culver Academy in the championship, the Eagles winning it all 23-25, 25-19, 15-9.
Stat leaders for the Lady Warriors included Elizabeth Kleopfer with 42 assists, 18 kills, 18 digs and eight aces, and a All-Tournament Team nod for her work. Brooke Heche added 25 digs and three aces, Madison Simmons had 18 kills and 14 digs, Molly Jones and Hannah Gaerte combined for 23 kills, Ella Williamson had five aces and Ashley Vazquez had eight assists.
Rounding out the All-Tournament Team were Emma Hirchak and Logan Smith of Garrett, Sammie Farrall and Madison Stevens of Culver Academy, and Sadie Brenneman of Bethany Christian.
Wawasee (9-9) plays Monday at Whitko.
WARSAW 3-1 IN MICHIGAN CITY INVITE
Warsaw reached the championship matchup against host Michigan City, but couldn’t get a point when it counted. Michigan City beat Warsaw 25-19, 22-25, 15-13 in the final, which both teams reached the game having gone undefeated in pool play.
Warsaw won all three of its pool games 2-0 against Fort Wayne Concordia, Valparaiso and Concord.
For the day, Warsaw had Kacy Bragg post 63 assists, 10 kills and five digs and Betty Barnett had 29 kills, both earning All-Tournament Team honors. Kylie Smith added 29 digs and five aces and Cora West had 29 digs. Rachel Yeager had 16 blocks in pool play matchups.
Warsaw (16-5) will next play Tuesday at Fort Wayne Carroll.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY MS 2, SOUTH BEND CAREER ACADEMY 0
Lakeland Christian Academy defeated South Bend Career Academy in straight sets. 25-6 25-6 Friday evening.
Addisyn Daley had eight kills while Cati Dahms added four more. The Cougars play Lakeview Middle School on Monday.
MADISON ELEMENTARY WINS DUNES TOURNEY
Two Warsaw elementary schools faced each other in the championship of the Dunes Tournament hosted by the Dunes Volleyball Club.
Madison and Washington sixth grade teams faced off in the championship after winning their respective brackets. Madison would claim the title with a 25-18, 25-11 championship round.
