WARSAW — The Kosciusko Solid Waste Management District discussed a sticker system and student education during its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The district approved a sticker system that will be used for televisions and appliances left next to trash bins for pick-up. The stickers will be placed on electrical items that can be recycled at the Depot. Each sticker will give the individual who left the item for trash pick-up information about the Recycling Depot. A coupon will also be included with the sticker. The sticker system will be used throughout municipalities in Kosciusko County.

KC Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser introduced those present at the meeting to Suzanne Stokes, the district’s new education and outreach coordinator. At the meeting, Stokes presented her first educator’s report.

Since she began in August, Stokes has contacted several school corporations in the community, including Wawasee and Warsaw, to plan recycling lessons with the schools. The Depot participated in the county’s Family Safety Day. Stokes also proposed having a winter craft series at the Depot to help bring people to the building during the colder months.

“Overall, I’m just really looking forward to the rest of the year,” said Stokes.

During the meeting, the district discussed new wraps for the Depot’s vehicles. The current concept involves a green and white color scheme with the Depot’s logo. The Depot’s phone number and website address are also on the wraps.

Ganser also discussed the Depot hiring a second Household Hazardous Waste Coordinator. Interviews for the position are set to begin this week.

Treasurer Michelle Puckett informed the district that the Depot’s 2019 budget was approved by the Kosciusko County Council. The district also approved the transfer of $4,500 from the educator’s fund to the general labor position fund.
