Volleyball Results: Sept. 27
WARSAW 3, NORTHWOOD 0
Warsaw kept pace in the Northern Lakes Conference volleyball race, beating NorthWood 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 Thursday night in the Tiger Den.
Warsaw sits at 5-1 in the conference, still one game back of Plymouth’s 6-0 mark with one game to go next week.
Betty Barnett led the Warsaw attack with 14 kills and added three blocks. Kennedy Lauck was also big at the net with eight kills and seven blocks. In the back, Kylie Smith had 14 digs, and Kacy Bragg had 30 assists, four blocks and four aces.
NorthWood (3-3 NLC) did not have leading hitter Maddy Payne in the lineup Thursday, so Alea Minnich picked up the slack for the Panthers with seven kills. Ali Knepp added four kills. Caroline Mullet again had a full plate with 16 assists, seven digs and three blocks. Whitley Gessinger added eight digs and Kate Rulli had three blocks.
Warsaw (21-7) will take to the Dunes Tourney on Saturday, NorthWood (23-7) will visit Mishawaka Marian Monday.
ELKHART MEMORIAL 3, WAWASEE 0
A hot start cooled off for the Lady Warriors Thursday night.
Memorial held off Wawasee, 28-26, in game one of the NLC contest in Syracuse, but Memorial righted the ship and won the next two by a more comfortable 25-18, 25-12 scorelines.
Category leaders for the Lady Warriors were Madison Simmons with seven kills, Brooke Heche with eight digs, Liz Kleopfer with 15 assists and two aces, and Ava Rush with three blocks.
Memorial also claimed the JV matchup, winning 25-9, 23-25, 15-10. Leslie Vazquex had three kills and threea ces, Delaney Hare nine digs and three kills, and Corin Nyce with 12 assists and six digs for the 13-5 Lady Warriors.
Wawasee (17-5) won the freshman matchup 25-22, 13-25, 15-10. Dylan Konieczny paced Wawasee with four blocks, four aces, four kills and three digs.
Wawasee (12-13, 2-4 NLC) will compete Saturday in the Dunes Tourney.
LAKEVIEW 8TH GRADE 2, ROCHESTER 1
Lakeview beat Rochester by the slimmest of margins, rallying 22-25, 25-22, 15-14. Caitlyn Patrick and Tessa Graney combined for 13 assists, eight kills and two aces while Ryan Darlington had three digs, two aces and a kill.
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, ROCHESTER 0
Lakeview won its 17th game of the season with a 25-10, 25-17 triumph over the Zebras. Kenzie Chivington had nine aces and two kills, Colette Blackburn had five aces and four kills, and Clara Porter added six aces.
BETHANY CHRISTIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL 2, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 0
LCA wouldn’t take the Bruins, which won the matchup 25-22, 25-21. Alexis Miller led the Cougars with three kills on the night. LCA plays again Monday.
WESTVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, MILFORD ‘A’ 1
WESTVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, MILFORD ‘B’ 0
Milford came out with a game one win, 25-17, but fell in the final two games 25-20, 15-12 to the crimson Warriors. The junior game saw Westview come out on top 25-18, 25-19.
