Panthers Repeat As Sectional Champs
WATERLOO – NorthWood has been frustrated all season in 1-0 games. It was about time to be excited about one.
NorthWood repeated as girls soccer sectional champions Saturday after defeating host DeKalb, 1-0, in the final of the Class 2-A DeKalb Girls Soccer Sectional.
After being on the short end of four 1-0 losses this season, the Lady Panthers got the goal it needed, packed in and held on for the title.
Morgan Stickley scored the goal for NorthWood in the 26th minute, assisted by Mackenzie Bergman. From there, the defense did the job in holding DeKalb off the board to make the goal stand up.
DeKalb managed just three shots in the match, all pulled in by Kira Robinson for her second shutout of the state tournament.
NorthWood, which won its first-ever sectional title last October, moves to 8-6-4 on the season and will take on either West Lafayette or Culver Academy in the morning game of the Plymouth Regional next Saturday. The West Lafayette-Culver Academy game was postponed to Monday due to weather. West Lafayette knocked NorthWood out of the regional last season.
