Lancer Tennis Has Fitting End
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s women’s tennis team capped off its finest season in program history with a thrilling 5-4 win against IU East on Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers came from behind, rallying from a 4-2 deficit to win on Senior Day.
Grace picked up its 14th win of the season, further extending its record for most wins in a single season.
The Red Wolves (5-2) pulled ahead 4-2 after singles’ play. Grace’s lone two singles’ points came from its two seniors Molly Fitzpatrick and Jenna Jackson.
Fitzpatrick won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Jackson battled to a dramatic 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 victory at No. 3 singles. Jackson’s win proved critical.
Grace quickly tied the score in doubles. Emily Mast and Jackson cruised 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Morgan Mast and Shelby Bankson also won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The match came down to No. 2 doubles with Carrie Copeland and Fitzpatrick. The contest went into a tiebreaker when Grace won 11-9 to secure a comeback victory.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our girls, especially our seniors Jenna and Molly. To finish their season with four points between them was amazing. They stepped up when their teammates needed them the most,” said Grace head coach Marcus Moore. “All of our girls should be proud of what they accomplished this fall. If I know them like I think I do, they will be gearing up and excited for spring season.”
With it, Emily Mast was named to the All-Crossroads League team Tuesday.
