Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
7:01 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, South SR 25 and South CR 400W, Warsaw. Drivers: Elizabeth M. Kapp, 38, Monroe Street, Rochester; and Nicholas N. Smith, 34, East Division Road, Akron. The vehicles collided as Smith was slowing down to make a southbound turn onto CR 450W. Kapp stated she did not notice that Smith was turning and her vehicle struck the left rear corner of Smith’s vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
1:49 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, West US 30 and North CR 700W, Warsaw. Driver: Consuela J. Borkholder, 43, South County Farm Road, Silver Lake. Borkholder’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $2,500.
9:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, East US 30, east of South CR 900E, Pierceton. Driver: Toccara R. Dillard, 36, South Kaley Street, South Bend. Dillard’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
4:27 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, East US 30, east of South CR 900E, Pierceton. Driver: Heather L. Scherer, 40, EMS B6A Lane, Leesburg. Scherer’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
2:36 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, North Barbee Road and EMS B61 Lane, Warsaw. Driver: Robert L. Johnson, 28, South Harlem Avenue, Bridgeview, Ill. Johnson was traveling east on North Barbee Road when a tree broke due to high winds and fell on top of Johnson’s vehicle. Both Johnson and a passenger in his vehicle, Stephanie A. Johnson, 30, South Thomas Avenue, Bridgeview, Ill., were transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. Several Nipsco utility poles and power lines were also damaged. Damage up to $10,000.
7:42 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, South CR 1000W and West CR500S, Mentone. Driver: Cameron L. Gearhart, 18, South CR 1475E, Akron. Gearhart’s vehicle struck a deer. Damage up to $10,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
4:49 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, North Huntington Street and East Henry Street, Syracuse. Drivers: Tammy S. Shoopman, 58, East CR 1300N, Milford; Ryan A. Adams, 28, Quincy Drive, Mishawaka; and Jonathan J. Otto, 18, North Walnut Street, Lagrange. Shoopman’s vehicle struck Adams’ vehicle at the intersection. Shoopman stated she did not see Adams’ vehicle prior to the collision. After the impact, Adams’ vehicle spun around and hit Otto’s vehicle. Damage up to $25,000.
Marshall
Officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
7:46 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, US 31 north of 12th Road, Plymouth. Driver: Edwin O. Jarquin-Rosado, 26, Eau Claire, Mich. Injured: Christopher E. Martinez, Everett, Wash., a passenger, complained of pain throughout his body and several injured areas. Jarquin-Rosado refused medical treatment. Jarquin-Rosado’s vehicle went off the road, rolled several times, coming to rest approximately 600 feet from where it left the roadway. Speed, texting while driving and intoxication are believed to be factors in the collision.
9:47 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, South Michigan Street, LaPaz. Driver: Bryan K. Heims, 49, LaPaz. Heims’s vehicle struck a utility pole in the alleyway and then moved to a parking lot. Heims told police the vehicle was struck in the parking lot. Heims was arrested for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and false informing.
12:36 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, Veterans Parkway and US 31, Plymouth. Drivers: Jason Henderson, South Bend; and Mark Zimmerman, Plymouth. Henderson failed to stop for the stop sign and yield the right of way to Zimmerman’s semi-tractor/trailer. Henderson was cited for failure to yield the right of way, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility and driving while suspended prior.
