Pierceton Man Sentenced In Battery And Criminal Confinement Case
WARSAW — A Pierceton man was sentenced in Kosciusko Circuit Court Thursday, Oct. 25, after beating a male and confining him in a vehicle’s trunk.
Shawn Lee Jefferson, 1840 S. CR 500E, Pierceton, was charged with criminal confinement, a level 3 felony; and battery by means of a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.
On Dec. 19, 2017, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department received a call from an individual who was driving behind a vehicle and witnessed its trunk coming open. The individual observed a male subject in the trunk bleeding from the head.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the male went to Jefferson’s residence to meet with Heather Hersha, who had invited him over. When the male walked into Jefferson’s residence, he was attacked by two men. The male was struck with an object that he believed was a baseball bat.
Jefferson jumped on top of the male and started fighting with him, placing his fingers in the male’s mouth and pulling on his cheek. The male then bit Jefferson’s finger off.
While attempting to escape through a window, Jefferson, Hersha, and another male at the scene, identified as Freddy Roberts, got him down on the floor. Jefferson then struck the male in the eye with a baseball bat. The male told officers that Jefferson and Hersha put him in a trunk and drove him around to various places for several hours.
Jefferson and Hersha drove to a wooded area and parked there. Hersha told the male to wait five minutes to get out of the trunk. The male sustained several injuries, including a swollen face, broken nose, black eye and a bite mark on his chest.
Jefferson was sentenced to six years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for each charge. This sentence will be served concurrently to a case related to dealing in methamphetamine.
Hersha is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Nov. 19. Roberts is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Jan. 7, 2019.
