Silver Lake Teens Face Theft Charges
SILVER LAKE — A man and woman, each from Silver Lake, are facing theft charges after police say they attempted to steal a vehicle in order to go on a joy ride and drug-purchasing trip.
Courtney Irene Pruitt, 19, 404 North High St., Silver Lake and Steven James Burnworth, Jr., 18, 3169 W. Myrtle Glen Road, Silver Lake are each charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
According to police, Pruitt, Burnworth and another woman were attempting to steal a green Ford van in order to drive to Warsaw and purchase methamphetamine and marijuana. The van, according to police, had been removed from the driveway of its owner and wrecked into a fence of a nearby resident.
Police reported that Pruitt told officers the van was run into the fence by Burnworth and the other woman and that she tried to start the van. Burnworth told police the van was pushed from its original spot because it couldn’t be started and was run into the fence because Pruitt, who was behind the wheel when it was rolled in neutral from its original location, jumped from the vehicle while it was rolling.
Police say both Pruitt and Burnworth admitted the plan was to use the vehicle to drive to Warsaw for drugs.
