Short North Webster Council Meeting Yields Big Results
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Town Council got a lot of business done in a short amount of time at its monthly meeting Tuesday evening, Nov. 20, in the North Webster Community Center. Council approved three items and heard progress on other issues.
Council agreed for Dixie Haven Resort to continue its agreement to manage the municipal piers for another five years and agreed to pay Kosciusko County $1,000 per year for terminal service to report crimes as the rest of the police departments in the county do.
North Webster Police Chief Greg Church asked and received approval of additional overtime for officers in the amount of $250,000. Normally the entire amount is not used, but it is there if needed according to Church.
Lisa Strombeck presided as the council learned leaf pick up will continue at least one or two more weeks from Utilities Manager Mike Noe. “As long as there are piles and the weather cooperates we will pick them up,” he said.
The new holiday snowflakes are all up and work along SR 13 and the winter banners have been hung. Noe also reported the clarifier is almost completely repaired and the department is waiting on a bid for T-Square, Leesburg, about work at the end of East Washington Street at Webster Lake. Phend & Brend, Milford, have been approved for the paving work there, which will take place in the spring. The town is coordinating its efforts with the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Fire Department.
“The concrete project in North Webster Town Park will begin at the end of March or the beginning of April,” informed Park Board President Steve Kemp. The Dixie Sternwheeler Inc. donated $5,000 for the revamping of the storage space in the park, which will take care of its share and requested an official agreement. Town Attorney Jack Birch will draw one up.
Each section, one for the Dixie, one for the restaurant leasing the town owned building, and one for the town, will have separate access and be secure from each other. Curry Roofing will complete work at the park this year.
Birch told the council he is working on an ordinance to clarify some issues with the Knapp Lake Regional Sewer District for use of the North Webster Waste Treatment Plant. KLRSD has been very cooperative, he noted.
Church reported 252 calls of service by the NWPD were made in October with the 47 being traffic related. Officers worked 611.75 hours, drove 3,834 miles and used 325.9 gallons of fuel in police vehicles.
The next meeting of the council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
