Trojans Have Six On HNAC Football Awards List
BOURBON – Triton’s historic football season yielded several honors for its players among the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
The league All-Conference list had Delano Shumpert, Billy Smith, James Snyder, Tye Orsund and Connor Ousley all named First Team. Andrew Parker was given an Honorable Mention All-HNAC nod.
Triton finished tied for second place in the conference with a 5-2 mark, all looking up at state champion Pioneer, which went 7-0 in the HNAC and 15-0 overall to win the Class 1-A football championship. Triton, Knox and LaVille all ended 5-2 overall. North Judson was 3-4, Winamac was 2-5, Culver was 1-6 and Caston was 0-7 in the final standings.
Triton went 9-4 overall and won just its third sectional championship, its first in 10 years, with a 29-17 sectional championship at North Judson. Pioneer knocked out Triton, 66-0, in the regional hosted by the Trojans. The nine team wins set a program record for a season, and the team set numerous program records for offensive and defensive proficiency.
Pioneer’s Jack Kiser and Knox’s Dawson Patrick were named Co-MVPs for the league this season. Both headline the First Team list. For Pioneer were Kiser, Daniel Gregorich, Gavin James, Addai Lewellen, Ezra Lewellen, Dustin Sparks, Miles Van Tobel and Connor Walker. For Knox were Patrick, Dalton Kohn, Jared Prater, Martin Naperkowski and Josh Alexander.
LaVille had Corbin Brown, Andrew Dill, Robby Pope and Riley Wagoner. North Judson had Michael Clemons, Fletcher Greer, Nolan Shidler and Chuckie Wilcox. Winamac had Kyle Chumley, Dylan Fox and Jeb Smith. Culver had Zac Ditmire and Sam Schaller and Caston had Hunter Schanlaub.
Honorable Mentions went to Ayden Doyle and Kolby Watts of LaVille, Kyle Olds of Winamac, Dusty Krick of Knox and Sam Smith of Caston.
