HOMESTEAD 53, WARSAW 44
Warsaw took its first loss of the season Friday night at Homestead.
The Tigers surrendered 11 turnovers to Homestead’s five, and the Spartans punished them with 13 points off turnovers. Homestead (2-0) jumped out to a 22-11 lead early in the second period and led wire to wire in the contest.
The Tigers (2-1) got the bulk of their offense from Brian Elliott, who converted 8 of 14 shots, including 3 of 5 3-pointers for 19 points, but the Spartans had four players at or near double figures, as Zak Krueger scored 15, Luke Goode finished with 10, and both Zac Bradtmiller and Xavier Overstreet put up nine points apiece.
Nolan Groninger dished out six assists but was limited to four points on 2-of-8 shooting int he loss. Tyler Metzinger and Jaylen Reese finished with seven points each, and Metzinger pulled down seven rebounds.
Warsaw’s JV won its contest, 48-37, meanwhile. Bishop Walters poured in 24 points, and Luke Adamiec scored 11 in that win. Andrew Leeper finished with 10 for the JV Spartans.
Warsaw returns to action Saturday at Huntington North. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
KNOX 41, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 38
The Vikings lost a close one versus Knox at home Friday night.
Valley trailed by one at the half, 20-19, and overcame a rough, 12-3 third quarter to pull back to within a single point but fell short of a second straight win.
Cam Parker and Tanner Trippiedi led the Vikings (1-2) with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Eian Coad finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Redskins (3-0).
Valley hosts Oregon-Davis Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
ARGOS 70, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 29
The buckets were few and far between for the Cougars, while Argos had four players in double figures in an LCA loss on the road Friday night.
Jake Harmon scored 13, and Braxton Keller put up eight, but that was about it for the Cougars, who fell behind 19-6 at the first quarter break. Harmon and Landon Twombly each recorded three rebounds to lead LCA (1-2) off the glass.
Sam Manikowski scored 17 to pace the Dragons (1-1), while Jeremiah Riddle finished with 12, Jonah Osborn scored 11, and Owen Nifong notched 10 for Argos.
LCA hosts Hamilton at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
