WARSAW – Warsaw held its ground against all comers Saturday in winning both ends of its Warsaw Swim Invites.

Warsaw stacked points in bunches in building 668 points in the girls standings and 556 in the boys ledger, easily outdistancing both sets of opponents. Northwestern was runner-up on both sides, scoring 486 points in the girls and 470.5 in the boys. Rochester was third in girls at 344 and Fort Wayne Snider had 315 points in the boys.

Warsaw’s boys had eight event winners, including a record setting performance. Grant Knight broke Spencer Davidson’s five-year-old record in the breaststroke with a 58.97, lowering Davidson’s previous 59.02. Knight also won the IM at 2:05.79, a full six seconds ahead of runner-up teammate Nick Bazzoni. Alex Cook was also a double winner, taking both the 50 (22.69) and 100 freestyle (50.55). Zack LaLonde won the backstroke at 59.12 and the Tigers swept all three relays, taking the medley (1:42.53), 200 (1:32.09) and 400 (3:36.49).

The Tiger girls had Delaney Wihebrink post four wins, taking the IM (2:20.37) and breaststroke (1:07.39) on her own, and having a hand in the medley relay (2:00.60) and 200 free relay (1:48.36). Gracie Willig added another winner for the Tigers with a 5:55.82 in the 500 free for the win.

In other area swims, Tippecanoe Valley took fifth in the Pilgrim Relays. Valley scored a collective 64 points in the six-team field. Culver Academy won the invite with 206 points, with Plymouth, Bremen and Pioneer next, then Valley, and lastly South Bend Washington.
