WAWASEE BOYS CLAIM OWN INVITE TITLE
Wawasee’s boys rallied in the final 400 free relay to win its own Wawasee Swim Invite Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 251-232 heading into the final event, the Warriors won the relay at 3:31.49 and had its second relay come in eighth, taking 42 points to Columbia City’s 20 points for landing in fifth. The shift in points made the final score 274-271 in favor of Wawasee, with Culver Academy third at 237 points. This is the fourth straight year Wawasee has won the boys title.
Wawasee’s relay consisted of Bryce Knepp, Daegan Kingrey, Karlson Hand and Jared Krugman, with three of those gentlemen landing in top threes elsewhere in the meet.
Kingrey was second in the 100 free at 51.71, Hand was third in both the IM (2:13.58) and the backstroke (1:02.71) and Jared Krugman was second in both the 200 (1:46.61) and 500 (4:55.42). Jacob Krugman placed third in the butterfly (59.56) and the Warrior 200 free relay took second (1:36.86).
Wawasee had three championship runs on the girls side, but landed fourth in the team standings.
Rileigh Atwood won the breaststroke at 1:10.49, Ella Park won the 500 at 5:35.84 and the 200 free relay team of Atwood, Park, Lily Tyler and Ali Haberman swam a 1:50.80 winner. Wawasee’s 400 free relay placed third (4:02.74), Park was third in the 200 (2:04.84) and Tyler was third in the IM (2:27.25).
Columbia City held off Culver Academy, 241-231, for the girls title. Angola was third at 190 and Wawasee fourth at 182.
Tippecanoe Valley also competed at the meet and had two swimmers crack top four. Olivia Livengood was third in the butterfly at 1:06.74 and Brandon Hoffman was fourth in the backstroke at 1:03.09. Valley placed ninth in both team standings.
Wawasee hosts NorthWood Tuesday while Valley hosts Manchester Wednesday.

Warsaw took care of business, but got a scare from Goshen in its Saturday morning duals at Goshen.
Three relays wins by the Tigers, the medley at 2:01.15, the 200 at 1:54.11 and the 400 at 4:06.52 all got the job done while Delaney Wihebrink had an outright win in the IM at 2:20.94 and tied Memorial’s Rachel Terrell in the backstroke at 1:01.43. Also winning for Warsaw were Gracie Willig in the 200 free at 2:12.17, Taylor Gunter in the butterfly at 1:07.47, Olivia Herman in the 100 free at 59.97 and Grayson Kilburn in diving at 146.65.

The Tigers left Goshen with a pair of lopsided wins over the RedHawks and Chargers.
The Tigers won nine of the 12 events outright, led by two each from Grant Knight in the IM (2:04.27) and breaststroke (59.39), Alex Cook in the 50 (22.87) and the 100 (51.63) and Zach LaLonde in the 500 (5:31.35) and backstroke (1:00.26). Michael Ray picked up a win in the 200 at 2:01.40 and the medley relay (1:44.39) and 200 free relay (1:36.09) were also tops.
Warsaw hosts Plymouth Tuesday.
