Shriver Named Fulton County Community Foundation’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley High School Senior Shayleigh Shriver has been named Fulton County Community Foundation’s 2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Shriver found out the news this past Saturday, but it was announced at a special presentation this morning, Dec. 11, at the school. She will receive a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and a $900 yearly stipend for books and equipment. She plans to attend Purdue University to study elementary education.
Shriver said that when she found out the news this past weekend she was, “very excited, very grateful.”
Her parents, Jeff and Janie Shriver, were also present during the special presentation.
“I’m just very proud of her and very happy to be here in the Valley School Corporation. They’ve done a lot for her,” said Janie Shriver.
Shriver was elected Tippecanoe Valley High School student body president. She has also participated in Future Farmer of American and student council all four years of high school. She is a founding member of the Tippecanoe Valley Girls of Grace, the Tippecanoe Valley Farm to Fork Program and the Champions together Sports Partnership with Special Olympics. Shriver was the 2017 and 2018 varsity volleyball team captain and she has set many records and received numerous awards. It was noted that she has also completed an “outstanding” amount of volunteer work.
She was selected for this scholarship from a field of 24 applicants. The process is a blind process, so the committee members do not know the name of each applicant.
Other finalists included Adam Brown, Gabriella Goss and Isaac Smith of Rochester High School and Billy Gillman of Tippecanoe Valley High School.
