Raymond G. Kitson
Raymond G. “Gene” Kitson, 87, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw. He was born February 18, 1931, in Syracuse to Raymond H. and Mary Erin (Flemming) Kitson.
He graduated in 1949 from Syracuse High School, attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, and was a United States Air Force veteran. He was married on June 18, 1955, in Syracuse, to Peggy Sue Elliott who survives. He was formerly employed at New Paris Lumber, retired as a mail carrier for the Syracuse Post Office after 27 years, and worked at Ace Hardware in Syracuse after his retirement. He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident until he moved to Warsaw in Dec. 2017.
He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse and was an official for high school baseball & basketball for many years.
He is survived by his wife; twin daughters: Mary Kitson, Kingsland, Ga.; Marie (Barb Boyd) Kitson, St. Mary’s, Ga.; son, Alan (Penny) Kitson, Warsaw; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard “Dick” Kitson.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, in the funeral home with Alan Kitson and Pastor David Henry officiating. Burial & military graveside rites will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
