Tomasik Awarded 2019 Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship
WARSAW — Andy Tomasik, visual arts teacher at Warsaw Community High School was named the recipient of a 2019 Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship.
The $12,000 fellowship enables educators to pursue their dreams and passions, explore new areas of interest, as well as expand and develop new and existing talents. Renewal times are opportunities for intentional exploration and reflection that will result in renewed energy, enthusiasm and creativity in teachers and thereby in classrooms and schools.
Tomasik’s project is “Flame ware, Food & Art: My Personal Renaissance.”
Through this project, he plans to visit Italy in the summer of 2019, where he will study the Italian language; attend professional-level ceramic and cooking courses in Tuscany; explore historic landmarks and museums in Florence; develop flame ware pots and formulate glazes; and encourage students to experiment with new glazes for the pottery they create.
