Braves Pull TRC Swim Double
BUNKER HILL – Maconaquah stood tall on the podium as the boys and girls swim team champions at the Three Rivers Conference Championships.
The meet, in its fourth year in its current format, saw ten more records fall, six on the girls side where the Braves claimed three of them. Abby Shrock set two of them, posting times of 1:03.38 in the backstroke and 1:03.94 in the butterfly. The Maconaquah closed with a 3:51.70 in the 400 free relay to cement its 389 points, well ahead of Rochester’s 303 in second place. Wabash (157), Manchester (155), Tippecanoe Valley (138) and Northfield (16) rounded out the team standings.
The Braves also had individual titles from its medley relay, Anna Borden in the 50 free, Brooke Borden in diving and Alaina Simmons in the 500 free.
Manchester’s Halle Briner was two titles, setting the meet records in both the individual medley at 2:09.21 and 100 free at 53.02. Teammate Cora Bennett was the winner in the breaststroke.
Rochester’s Makenna Beall lowered the mark in the 200 free at 2:06.15, and anchored the 200 free relay to a win.
Tippecanoe Valley had two girls in top-threes, with Elaina Dishon runner-up at 290 points and Olivia Livengood was third in the butterfly at 1:06.98.
The Maconaquah boys also had its way, scoring 372 points to finish well ahead of the Zebras’ 246 points. Wabash was third at 162, Manchester fourth at 157, Tippy fifth at 128 and Northfield at 32.
Maconaquah won the medley relay to open the meet, then closed with a record-setting 400 free relay at 3:35.34. Dawson Thompson won the IM, Vinny Rooker took diving and Hunter Hays owned the breaststroke for the Braves.
Mason Beall was a double winner for Rochester, breaking the 200 free record at 1:48.89 and coming back to win the 100 free. Isaac Smith won the 500 free and Rochester’s 200 free relay also were victorious.
Northfield’s Grant Dale set two record, winning the butterfly at 55.11 and the backstroke at 57.24. Parker York had the lone Manchester boys win with a 50 free title.
Tippecanoe Valley had several runner-up spots, starting with the medley relay at 2:00.98. Dakota Prater posted a 5:44.59 in the 500, Brandon Hoffman a 1:02.93 in the backstroke and Mason Stephen a 1:07.96 in the breaststroke in second-place timings for the Vikes.
