Right To Life Of North Central Indiana Confirms Kosciusko County’s First Baby Surrender
KOSCIUSKO — Right to Life of North Central Indiana recently received a report from Safe Haven Baby Box Foundation confirming Kosciusko County’s first baby surrender.
According to a Facebook post on the Right to Life of North Central Indiana page, a woman called the Safe Haven hotline number and was directed to a Kosciusko County location.
“The Indiana State Safe Haven law allows for a baby to be surrendered at a fire station or hospital,” the post read. “Baby boxes have not been installed yet in Kosciusko County, but it appears that our publicizing the Safe Haven hotline number is already having an impact.”
Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows mothers to safely surrender their newborns without fear of criminal prosecution.
Syracuse and Warsaw’s baby boxes have yet to be installed. The Syracuse baby box will be installed at Fire Station 2 on McClintic Road. Warsaw’s will be installed at Fire Station 2 on Center Street.
Right to Life of North Central Indiana has billboards promoting the Safe Haven hotline number in Kosciusko and Whitley Counties. The 24-hour hotline people can contact for baby surrenders is (866) 99BABY1.
