Cromwell Man Identified As Person Found Deceased North Of Syracuse
ELKHART COUNTY — Myles Shannon Owens, 28, Cromwell, has been identified as the person officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office found deceased Friday, Feb. 15, near a residence in the 15200 block of CR 52, Syracuse. The preliminary cause of death has been ruled accidental by the Elkhart County Coroner.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 2:53 p.m. Friday to a report of a person down near the CR 52 residence, located north of Syracuse. Officers located the person, later identified as Owens.
The investigation showed Owens was a suspect in a vehicle pursuit at 3:12 a.m. Feb. 9, where Elkhart County Sheriff’s officers attempted to stop him for speeding. The offers lost sight of the vehicle and located it later abandoned in a field. A search failed to locate the suspect and the officers left the scene and impounded the vehicle.
Noble County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Elkhart County Sheriff’s officers Feb. 13, after Owens had been reported missing. Officers returned to the area and conducted searches using an unmanned aerial vehicle and searched a pond using an underwater unmanned vehicle, but failed to located Owens.
It was Feb. 15 the sheriff’s office was alerted to a person down near the CR 52 address, who has now been identified and connected to the vehicle involved in the incident.
Further investigation is continuing by the Elkhart County Homicide Unit.
Funeral services for Owens will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church, Lisbon. Services will also be held at Hindman Funeral Services, Hindman, Ky., with burial at Fuller Family Cemetery, Emmalena, Ky.
Owens was born in Martin, Ky., April 22, 1990, to Allen and Sandra (Fuller) Owens. He was employed with Champion Homes, Topeka.
He is survived by his mother, Sandra Owens of Fort Wayne, brother, James (Flor) Owens, Cromwell; two sisters, Lola (Rob) Hamilton, Fort Wayne and Kyla Owens, Elwood, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
