WCHS Speech Team Celebrates Success at Competition
WARSAW — Warsaw Community High School announced the success of the speech team at a competition held at Lakeland High School on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The team, which is comprised of four freshmen and one sophomore student, competed against ten area schools. All students on the WCHS team competed at the varsity level.
Kathryn Anders, head speech coach for WCHS, stated, “We are in an awesome place leading up to sectionals next weekend. These students have worked hard and are competing against upperclassmen and winning.”
Results from the competition are as follows: Rachel McLane and Kylee Anders, second place, duo division; Autum Kelly, fourth place, original performance; Rachel McLane, third place, poetry; Jessica Pogue, fourth place, poetry; Kylee Anders, second place, prose, poetry and drama; Rachel Dempsey, first place, POI; Jessica Pogue, fourth place, prose; Rachel Dempsey, first place, prose.
As a team, Warsaw placed fifth out of 10 schools, following fourth place by only two points. Next weekend, the speech team will be competing in sectionals at Concord High School.
