Winona Lake Swears In New Reserve Officer
WINONA LAKE — Winona Lake will join Claypool in sharing the services of the same police officer.
At the regular monthly meeting of the Winona Lake Town Board Tuesday night, Feb. 19, Police Chief Joe Hawn announced to the board and to the audience that Randy Bays was selected to add to the town’s list of reserve officers. The board approved Bays, and Town Attorney Adam Turner swore Bays in.
“He comes to us with eight years of law enforcement experience already,” said Hawn. “He spent six and a half years at Mentone and he’s been with Claypool Police Department for a year and a half and last week he was hired as a full-time officer down there and he’s going to come to Winona and serve the town of Winona as well so we’re really excited to have him.”
Hawn told the board that Bays would be leaving the meeting in order to go to Claypool, where he would swear in as that town’s newest full-time officer.
In other news, Town Coordinator Craig Allebach announced changes in the agreement for design work of the town’s impending roundabout.
The board also:
- Approved an indemnification agreement for additional office space for the town’s police department.
- Heard of appointments to the Economic Development Commission of Dave Turner and Bruce Shaffner on the Plan Commission.
- Heard of upcoming events in the town, including the 4-Leaf Clover 5K at Green Earth Multi-Sport at 9 a.m. on March 17 as well as the World Compassion Network 5K on March 23 in the park, beginning at 10 a.m.
