NLC Offers Hoops All-NLC Choices
GOSHEN – Northridge’s exit from the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament ushered in the Northern Lakes Conference to release its All-NLC picks for both boys and girls basketball for the 2018-19 season.
Boys Basketball
The conference championship race came down to the final day, and Elkhart Memorial made the most of a weather make-up with a win at Warsaw to claim a share of the title with the Tigers.
Both teams finished 6-1, Warsaw earning at least a slice of five straight titles in the NLC while the Chargers got its first piece since 2012. Sharing honors was the theme, as both Doug Ogle of Warsaw and Kyle Sears of Memorial were named Co-Coaches of the Year.
Warsaw had Nolan Groninger and Tyler Metzinger named All-NLC and Wyatt Amiss as Honorable Mention All-NLC. Memorial had Hank Smith and Trey Gallope named All-NLC and D’arjon Lewis as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Northridge and Plymouth both finished 5-2 and tied for third, the Raiders with Jackson Erekson and Sam Vogt as All-NLC and Alex Stauffer and Carter Stoltzfus as Honorable Mention. The Pilgrims had Cole Filson and Clay Hilliard as All-NLC and Jake Reichard as Honorable Mention.
Concord (3-4) had Michael Johnson named All-NLC.
NorthWood (2-5) had Trent Edwards named All-NLC and Ben Vincent named Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Goshen (1-6) and Wawasee (0-7) had All-NLC choices in Bryant Robinson and Bennett Hoffert, respectively.
Girls Basketball
Northridge’s 28-game undefeated NLC basketball streak ended in the last game of the regular season to Plymouth, but the Raiders finished 6-1 and champions again of the NLC.
Coach of the Year Doug Springer’s team had Morgan Litwiller and Sierra Miller were All-NLC and Meghan Bontrager as Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Plymouth and Warsaw finished 5-2 and tied for second. Warsaw had Maddie Ryman, Kaylee Patton and Abby Sanner named All-NLC while Plymouth’s Halle Reichard and Cassidy Holiday were named All-NLC and Cece Robinson was Honorable Mention All-NLC.
Goshen and NorthWood tied for fourth at 4-3, the Panther duo of Maddy Payne and Kate Rulli as All-NLC and Kenzie Bergman as Honorable Mention. Brynn Shoup-Hill was All-NLC and Margaret Gallagher was Honorable Mention for the RedHawks.
Concord (3-4) had Kendal Swartout and Alexa Porter named All-NLC.
Elkhart Memorial (1-6) and Wawasee (0-7) had Honorable Mention choices in De’Mour Watson and Casey Schroeder, respectively.
