Whitko Community Schools Responds To Alleged Child Abuse Situation
SOUTH WHITLEY — Ink Free News was recently contacted by an anonymous source regarding an alleged child abuse situation that reportedly occurred at Pierceton Elementary School.
The source reported the incident to Ink Free News on March 19, the day after Whitko School Board’s meeting. During the school board meeting, Pierceton Elementary School Principal Mike McClain announced his resignation. However, a reason for the resignation was not provided.
When contacted about the incident, Whitko Community Schools released the following statement:
“Recently, Whitko administrators learned that building-level educators may have failed to follow all steps required by statute to timely and properly report possible child abuse or neglect. Upon learning of this situation, Whitko central administrators immediately contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services. Concurrently with local law enforcement authorities, Whitko Community Schools began an investigation, which continues. The well-being of our students will not be compromised.”
“Whitko Community Schools takes most seriously the safety of our students. We strive to provide a safe and secure learning environment where every student can perform their best work every day. When incidents occur that compromise that environment, Whitko Community Schools thoroughly investigates and a resolution is implemented.”
“Because of various privacy laws and to avoid jeopardizing the school corporation or law enforcement’s investigations, Whitko Community Schools will not comment further on this matter at this time.”
