Jury Trial Begins For Warsaw Man Facing Rape Charge
WARSAW — A jury trial began this morning, April 23, in Kosciusko County Superior 1 Court for a Warsaw man facing one charge of rape, a level 3 felony.
Todd Lynn Cornett II was arrested in June 2018 after a female victim reported that he raped her while she was drunk during a party at his house. The victim stated she went to a party on June 23, at Cornett’s residence on Market Street in Warsaw. The female advised she became very intoxicated and Cornett offered to help her to the restroom. When she got to the restroom, the female blacked out.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the next thing the female remembers was being dragged outside and put into the back of a truck by Cornett. The female then blacked out again. The female remembers waking up inside the truck. At that point she says, Cornett was inappropriately touching her.
The female victim states that Cornett proceeded to rape her. An officer was able to observe bruising on the female victim’s legs and head and scratches on her inner thighs.
The officer spoke with Cornett who admitted to hosting a party that involved alcohol. Cornett told the officer that he had sexual intercourse with the female in the front seat of his truck.
The jury selection began this morning and lasted two hours. After several rounds, six women and six men were selected as jurors. Two alternatives were also selected.
The trial will continue this afternoon and is scheduled to last two days.
