NORTHWOOD 6, WARSAW 5

A pair of runs in the seventh afforded NorthWood a Northern Lakes Conference win at Warsaw Monday night.

Trailing 5-4, Morgan Jenkins led off the seventh with a walk, stole second, then eventually came around to score on a Warsaw error. Lily Lomeli would give NorthWood the lead with a two-out single up the middle, scoring Gracie Clark.

Madison Miller would allow a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but closed the door with a strikeout to seal the win.

Jenkins and Lomeli both had two hits to lead NorthWood, as did Sydney King, who had a homer and drove in two runs. Miller pitched the final four innings, striking out nine to get the win.

Lindsey Bradley had two hits and an RBI and Katie Anderson scored twice for the Tigers.

Warsaw rapped 18 hits to claim a 16-3 JV win over NorthWood. Sydney McKean and Karlie German each had four hits in the win. Tori Tackett struck out eight for the pitching dub.

NorthWood (5-7, 1-3 NLC) visits Elkhart Memorial Wednesday while Warsaw (4-6, 2-2 NLC) hosts Northridge, also on Wednesday.

NORTHRIDGE 5, WAWASEE 0

After a big offensive showing Friday at home, Wawasee didn’t have much to show on the road Monday.

The Warriors hit three homers and hung 14 runs on NorthWood Friday, but managed just three hits in Middlebury to the Raiders in the five-inning contest. J Robinson had something to do with it, tossing the shutout on just three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

Madison Wienert, Meghan Bontrager and Makena Knepp all had three hits and combined for five of the 10 runs scored. Rachael Kelley added two hits and three RBIs. The Raiders touched up Wawasee starter Kiaundra Olson for 14 hits and eight runs.

The loss was the first for Wawasee in the NLC, dropping to 3-1 overall while Northridge moves to 3-0 in conference play.

Northridge also commanded the JV game in an 11-2 final. Laney Gross and Katy Flannery each had doubles for the Warriors.

Wawasee (7-5, 3-1 NLC) returns to work Wednesday at home against Plymouth.

SOUTHWOOD 14, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 4

An eight-run third was enough for the Knights to stay clear of Valley Monday afternoon in Three Rivers Conference play.

A trio of RBI doubles boosted Southwood in the third, achieved by Kayla Mays, MaKenna Pace and Kaegan Simpson. Pace would also homer and drive in four, Mays scored a pair of runs and Simpson had three hits. Makenlie Lambert added three RBIs for the Knights.

Valley had both Kirsten Prater and Alex Gomez homer in the loss.

Valley (3-6, 0-2 TRC) plays again Tuesday at Pioneer.

LAVILLE 21, TRITON 8

The big inning helped the Lancers to the Hoosier North Athletic Conference win.

LaVille scored five runs in the top of the first, then took a 10-5 lead after a four-run third and hung 11 runs in the fifth to pull away.

Brianna Sauers led the Lancers with four RBIs and Allison Medors drove in three runs.

Madeline Doll had two hits and a run scored and Jaelyn Bules added a hit and three walks to the Triton scoresheet.

Triton (3-8, 0-3 HNAC) takes on North Miami Tuesday.

MOUNT VERNON 7, GRACE 1
MOUNT VERNON 2, GRACE 1

Grace’s softball team was unable to win a road game at Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Monday.

MVNU won 7-1 in the first game and held on for a 2-1 win in the second game. The Lady Lancers (10-32, 6-24 Crossroads League) actually outhit the Cougars (20-16, 15-11 CL) in the second contest, but Grace still came up short.

All seven runs for MVNU in the opener were scored in the first two innings. The Cougars had a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone, and they tacked on five more runs in the second with five hits.

Grace could not puncture its side of the scoreboard until the seventh inning. Erin Lawhon hit a two-out RBI single for Grace’s lone run of the outing.

Lawhon was also Grace’s most efficient pitcher of the game. She did not allow a run to score over the final 4 2/3 innings of work, yielding just two hits.

Sam Heim batted 2 for 4 from the leadoff position, and Jessica Kaurich was 1 for 2 with a walk.

Similar to the first game, MVNU scored all of its runs early during the second matchup.

Grace struck first. Heim singled on the first at-bat of the game and quickly stole second. She raced home after a double by Kaurich.

MVNU countered with two runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1.

No more runs were scored in the game, despite seven more hits from Grace.

In the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, Grace had a baserunner in scoring position. But the Lady Lancers could not find a clutch RBI hit to tie the score.

Heim led off the top of the seventh with a single, and she was moved to third base with two outs. Grace was unable to move Heim home, however, ending the game with a fly out.

Dori Knight pitched a gem. She allowed just six hits and two runs over six innings, adding one strikeout with one walk.

Heim batted 3 for 4 with a steal and a run, Kaurich was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Britney Young had a hit and a stolen base.

The Lady Lancers are at home for the rest of the regular season. Grace hosts Huntington on Tuesday at 3 p.m., MVNU on Friday at 3 p.m. and Goshen on Saturday at 1 p.m.
