UPDATE: Driver In Burket Area Transported After Rollover Accident
BURKET — A motorist injured in a rollover accident west of Burket last week was seen driving in a nearby farm field prior to the wreck, according to a police report.
Phillip Owens, 38, North CR 1075E, Akron, was hospitalized Thursday, April 25, after the crash on CR 500S, west of CR 800W. He was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital. He had been complaining of neck pain and trouble with his vision.
Owens was traveling east on CR 500S when he left the road and rolled his pickup truck several times in a farm field.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s report, two witnesses working along a railroad just to the north of the accident said they saw the vehicle traveling fast along CR 500S, which is a gravel road.
Another witness told authorities that they saw the vehicle driving through a field before getting back on the road and then crashing.
Police believe the pickup truck Owens was driving rolled several times after Owens left the road.
The police report said an officer approached Owens after the crash and that Owens appeared to be combative and “not making sense.”
The vehicle sustained up to $5,000 damage, the police report said.
