Warsaw Community Career Center Announces May Events
WARSAW — The Warsaw Career Center offers monthly workshops that can be completed in increments, with assessments and certifications upon completion. This is the place to prepare yourself for a growing business and manufacturing world that demands more digital literacy and online/tech skills.
Goodwill Industries Week will take place from May 6 to 10.
The Beaman Home Outreach Hours
- 1 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday
From 1 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday, The Beaman Home will hold outreach office hours at the Warsaw Goodwill Career Center to connect survivors of trauma, domestic abuse and sexual assault with services at The Beaman Home. Services include counseling, support group, life skills, job skills and case management. All services are free of charge.
Practice Interview Sessions
- 11 a.m. to noon Monday, May 6
- 11 a.m. to noon Monday, May 20
The Goodwill Career Center will host open mock interviews for anyone who would like to practice their interview skills. If one feels nervous about being interviewed or struggling to land a job because of the process, these mock sessions will help prepare for the types of questions, from basic to personal, that may be asked. We’ll discuss how to answer the difficult questions and what to avoid. Learn how to appear confident and highlight skills in conversation. Another topic will be how personal appearance makes a great first impression. Choose a date and time to stop by and practice interview skills and receive a 25 percent discount card to the Goodwill retail store.
Tranter Graphics Hiring Event
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 7
The Goodwill Career Center will host a special hiring event with Tranter Graphics. The company will be hiring on the spot. Fill out an application, get interviewed, and pass a drug screen all on-site at the Warsaw Career Center and leave with a job. Tranter Graphics is looking for manual and digital machine operators, belt operators, cup operators, and an executive assistant/clerical position. Pay will range from $13 to $15 an hour. These positions need to be filled as soon as possible. Dress professionally, be ready to apply, interview, take a drug screen, and bring an updated résumé to better chances of landing a job.
Navigating Electronics
- 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8
Learn how to use a computer, tablet or smartphone. This drop-in navigation time will help people get more familiar with tools, functions and accessibility of whatever device you need to understand. Whether it is a personal device that you need some hands-on learning with, or an overview and tutorial-based lesson online, the Warsaw Career Center can help. Stop in to learn more about electronics and advancing digital skills.
Dress for Success Event
- noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9
Learn the do’s and don’t’s of dressing for an interview and for the job with this hands-on and interactive dress for success event. We’ll take you next door to the Goodwill retail store to pick out work-appropriate clothing. We’ll discuss the outfits and their appropriateness for the workplace. We will also have a slideshow to help teach how to assess clothing for work and professional settings. Attendees will receive a voucher to the Goodwill retail store to get clothing for future employment opportunities with the assistance of the Career Center staff. Help be guided in the right direction for business attire.
NorthStar Assessments Virtual Overview and Guide
- 11 a.m. to noon Friday, May 10
The NorthStar Digital Literacy website offers a range of free assessments to test competency across digital skills, tools and platforms ranging from basic computers to Microsoft Office products, to social media and more. Navigate how to access these assessments and display how to get the assessments proctored so you can earn a certificate with an 85 percent score or higher. This workshop is 100 percent digital and will be live online through Goodwill’s digital skills website.
Follow these instructions to participate from wherever you have Internet access:
- You will need a Google e-mail account or Gmail. You will then need to access this link: https://sites.google.com/goodwill-ni.com/digitalskills/communications.
- After accessing the link, click on the Warsaw CC link under the header Google Meet Links and a new window will pop up.
- Click on Join the Meeting.
- This is a video and audio meet room where we will present how to access and take NorthStar assessments. You do not need your camera on if you prefer it to be off and your audio is only for asking questions. You can turn your camera and audio off whenever you would like during the session. We will review how the Google Meet video interaction works before starting the virtual presentation.
Veterans Employment Services
- 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 16
Daniel Reed from WorkOne will be at the Goodwill Career Center to provide information for veterans on local services in the area. He will offer one-on-one employment help, employer resources, information on benefits and contacts for further services.
