WCHS Art Students Work Alongside Local Artist, Create Art Exhibit
WARSAW — On Tuesday, May 21, “the gallery at rua” will feature a special showing of the 20 Panel Modern Mosaic collaboration between the Warsaw Community High School art department and Artist-in-Residence Christi Ziebarth entitled “On Edge.” The exhibit, located in the Brennan Room of Warsaw’s unique restaurant Rua, will run from May 21 through July 21, with a public Artist Reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24.
The exhibit is the collaborative result of the four-week Educational Artist Residency Program featuring artist Christi Ziebarth and over 450 WCHS art students. The twenty mosaic acrylic panels that make up the installation are the combined hands-on creations of the students and Ziebarth.
Ziebarth is a local artist whose captivating mosaic designs are rich in tactile intricacy and concentric motion. Modern mosaic highlights the composition of wordless freeform improvisation. “The eye of a colorist, the hands of an artisan, echoes of historical technique and modern innovation meet here in the juxtaposition of each hand-painted, blade-cut tesserae.”
Ziebarth who grew up in Michigan, has degrees in education, K-12 art, and graphic design. Her work can be found in various ‘art walls’ throughout the local area, as well as Western Michigan University, Indianapolis and Los Angeles.
The Educational Artist Residency Program is a curriculum-based creative process where art students at WCHS work alongside a working professional artist to design, create and build collaborative works of art, as well as see and experience the personal art journey and techniques of the resident artist.
