Felony Charges Filed Related To Overdose Death Of Inmate
WARSAW — Yesterday, May 16, an arrest warrant was served on Christopher Aaron Susaraba, 28, Mishawaka, for his involvement in the March 9, death of Kosciusko County Jail inmate Dennis McCrory.
Susaraba is the first suspect in Kosciusko County to face charges for dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a level 1 felony. Additionally, Susaraba faces a charge of trafficking with an inmate, a level 5 felony.
As a result of the lengthy investigation, it was determined that Susaraba had methamphetamine and heroin in his body cavity, prior to his incarceration. According to witnesses, Susaraba provided narcotics to McCrory in a jail cell block. After administering the narcotics, McCrory became lethargic and eventually overdosed, leading to his death.
Jail officers immediately initiated life-saving measures on McCrory, after being alerted to his condition. Narcan was administered, without any reversal of McCrory’s level of consciousness. An autopsy indicated that McCrory died from acute mixed drug intoxication.
Susaraba has been incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail since March 6, when he was booked for a felony failure to appear warrant. An initial hearing has yet to be scheduled for the new charges.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
