Local Man Arrested For Paying Back Grandmother With Counterfeit Cash
Kosciusko — A local man was recently arrested after police say he asked his grandmother to write a check for him and paid her back with counterfeit cash.
Zachary Dale White, 27, with addresses of both 209 E. Baltimore St., Syracuse, and 602 W. Section St., Milford, is being charged with counterfeiting, a level 6 felony.
On March 19, an officer with the Syracuse Police Department responded to a counterfeit money call. The female victim told the officer that her grandson, White, had provided her with counterfeit money on March 18.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, White asked his grandmother to write a check for $200, which he said was to pay for his rent. White then provided his grandmother with two $100 bills to pay her back. When the grandmother attempted to deposit the bills at a local bank, she was informed the bills were counterfeit.
The officer went to the bank to examine the counterfeit bills. Both bills were different sizes than a real $00 bill, were flimsy and had incorrect markings. The officer confiscated both counterfeit bills.
White was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on May 16, with a $5,750 surety and cash bond.
