UPDATE: Wednesday Vehicle Accident May Have Been Caused By Flagger Confusion
WARSAW — A two-vehicle accident that occurred in Warsaw on Wednesday, May 22, may have been caused by confusing instructions from a traffic flagger.
At 12:57 p.m. emergency responders were dispatched to North SR 15, near East Center Street, Warsaw. Christian Moyotl, 19, North CR 175E 137, Warsaw, was driving southbound on SR 15. According to Moyotl, he had a green light but was stopped by a traffic flagger. He said the flagger waved him on and left the scene, at that time, the stoplight was red.
Moyotl’s vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Sharon R. Swartz, 72, Jackson Street, Atwood, while proceeding through the intersection. Swartz complained of left arm pain and was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital by paramedics.
A witness stated that they saw Moyotl’s vehicle stopped by a flagger directing traffic. The witness further observed the flagger wave Moyotl through the intersection and then leave the scene. Officers were unable to locate the traffic flagger who had been at the scene.
Moyotl was arrested after the accident for driving while suspended with a prior.
Damage from the accident was estimated at up to $25,000.
