North Webster Community Public Library Blasts Off Its Summer Reading Program
NORTH WEBSTER — The Youth Department at North Webster Community Public Library blasts off its Summer Reading Program with Jim Merrills’ Magic Space Camp Show 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5. A magician and educator, Merrills will entertain his audience with a magical celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. The program is open to all children and their families.
The next day, Thursday, June 6, the Garbage Monster from KC Recycling will be at the library at 10:30 a.m. to tell the story of reduce, reuse and recycle. The program is part of the Youth Department’s North Webster Adventures series held every Thursday through July 25 (except July 4) in which local personalities share interesting stories about the community.
Kids, ages four to 12, can read stories to therapy dogs Echo or Suzie during Paws-to-Read on Friday, June 7. Reading to one of these lovable canines is a fun way for children to practice their oral reading skills. Private 15-minute reading sessions are available from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and must be scheduled in advance at the Youth Services desk.
Later that afternoon at 2 p.m. students going into grade six to 12 are invited for Teen Games and Goodies to play party games and chow down on snacks.
Friday, June 7 is also Make It/Take It Craft Day. Children can drop in any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to make a paper bag alien craft.
On the adult side, Knit 1 Crochet 2 meets 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4. Meeting the first Tuesday each month, this knitting and crocheting group will be working on a service project throughout the summer, making hats and mittens/gloves for school children and lap blankets, hats and fingerless mittens for hospice patients. These items can also be made at home and brought in to donate. Yarn donations are also welcomed.
