Warsaw Community Public Library To Feature Curiosity Dome
WARSAW — The summer reading program at the Warsaw Community Public Library has just started and books are flying off the shelves in anticipation of prizes won for the number of books read. WCPL’s summer reading program has countless events and activities planned during the months of June and July. The most exciting and entertaining one by far is the Curiosity Dome. It will be at the Warsaw Community Public Library Monday June 10, starting at 9:30 a.m. and will continue in half hour increments until 6:30 p.m.
What exactly is the Curiosity Dome? Rice University & the Houston Museum of Natural Science developed the portable HD Planetarium, and with the support of NASA, each educational program provided by the Curiosity Dome is designed to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. It is so much more than just a portable Planetarium. This interactive giant dome is a 360-degree adventure that features state-of-the-art education and entertainment programs. WCPL’s presentation, which is brought to you by Matrix Entertainment, is a short film called “Passport to the Universe.” It is approximately 20 minutes long and is narrated by award winning actor Tom Hanks.
“Passport to the Universe” will allow you to venture into the Solar System, through the Milky Way Galaxy and to the edge of the observable universe. Viewing inside the dome will allow for a unique and immersive experience as the music comes to life around you with outstanding, hypnotic visuals.
The dome coming to the Warsaw Community Public Library is 11 feet tall with an approximate occupancy of 35 people. In order to enter and exit the dome, patrons will need to be able to bend down through a smaller entrance and sit on the floor for the entire 20 minutes. Tickets for the film will be available at the Reference Desk upstairs, starting at 9 a.m. Monday, June 10. There will be no phone reservations. A photo prop area will be set up to take photos while you are waiting for the show. This program is made possible, in part, through a grant from Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services, a component fund of Kosciusko County Community Foundation and Friends of the Library.
Along with the photo booth some other activities for the day will be a space themed craft at the Reference Desk as well as space-themed films playing all day in meeting room A/B.
