North Webster Library To Celebrate New Building Campaign With Summer Bash
NORTH WEBSTER — Staff at the North Webster Community Public Library will celebrate the library’s new building campaign with a summer bash from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, on the side lawn of the library.
For $5 per person, the public can enjoy a grilled hot dog, chips, water and entertainment by The Old Man Band. The Syracuse Knights of Columbus Council 6323 will be providing free snow cones as well. Proceeds from the bash will go to the library’s new building and sustainability fund and the construction of a new library facility. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the North Webster Community Center banquet hall.
While the library celebrates summer, the Knit 1 Crochet 2 group will be preparing for winter as they make warm hats and mittens for children to use this winter at North Webster Elementary School. Meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, the yarn crafting group will also be making lap blankets, hats and fingerless mittens for Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice patients. Yarn crafters are invited to come the first Tuesday of each month to work on these projects. They can also be made at home and brought into the library to donate prior to the October meeting. Those who don’t knit or crochet but would like to help with the project can also donate yarn.
Reservations are currently being accepted for a field trip to South Bend on Monday, Aug. 12. Leaving the library at 9 a.m. and traveling by carpool, the group will visit Studebaker National Museum with three levels of vintage Studebaker vehicles and the world’s largest collection of presidential carriages. After lunch at Fidler’s Hearth Public House featuring Celtic food and culture, the group will tour Oliver Mansion, the elegant home of the 19th century industrialist Joseph D. Oliver. With 38 rooms filled with original furnishings and 2.5 acres of gardens, the mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
To go on the field trip, you must sign up in advance at the library circulation desk. Space is limited, so sign up early. Bring along $15 for admission fees, or $12 for seniors 60 and over, plus money for lunch and gift shops. Children cannot be accommodated on the field trip.
